This book is incredible, especially when you consider that it is Karen Stockett's first novel. The story is told by three different characters with very distinct voices. Stockett's grasp of the vernacular (especially for three different) would be impressive in even a seasoned writer. The characters are well developed, easy to relate to, and I found myself sucked into their stories and worrying about them when I wasn't reading the book. It is an intimate and touching story about relationships between southern women that sometimes involve race and sometimes transcend it.
